Cincy Rockers – More Than a Cover Band

In December of 2012, American Legion, Anderson Post 318 opened a new facility on Clough Pike. From
the very beginning it became obvious that if we wanted to keep our doors open, we needed to develop
some long-term fundraisers.

After evaluating several options, we chose to establish the “Patriot Center” as a dance venue. However,
we also recognized that with no experience in conducting dance events, that what we really needed was
to align ourselves with a highly recognized group and form a relationship that resembled more of a
partnership.

In the fall of 2014, we connected with the “Cincy Rockers”, discussed what we wanted to accomplish,
both individually and collectively, and agreed to conduct our first event New Year’s Eve 2014.
Things went well! All expectations were met, so we mutually agreed to build on our relationship. Over
the next eight (8) years we conducted another thirty-seven (37) dance events. Some were theme
related. For example, New Year’s Eve, Superbowl Dance, Senior Prom, Homecoming, Halloween and
others. Each requiring the “Cincy Rockers” to do more than simply show up and perform. They took on
the role of “Event Stakeholders” and appeared in appropriate costumes and included some theme
appropriate music for these events! Overall, their individual contributions helped set the mood for
these events.

In the summer of 2019, I approached the “Cincy Rockers” with the idea of creating a Varity Show for
Christmas. They accepted the challenge, recruited three (3) additional performers, then created a two
(2) hour show using the “Cincy Rockers” to provide the musical arrangements for the singing talent.
More than 200 tickets were sold for this event and the show was a great success. Things went so well
that we tried this format again in 2021, and recognized equal success.
The fear associated with COVID, caused our customer base to stop attending Post 318 dance events.
With the loss of customer support, our dance events ended. However, it should be noted that working
with the “Cincy Rockers” far exceeded my expectations. Truly professional! They conducted 40 events
with no written contracts, nor any unmet expectations. In my opinion, working with the “Cincy Rockers”
is the best decision we made over the duration of our dance event history.
